OXFAM WASTESAVER'S URGENT APPEAL FOR DONATIONS
14.06.2011

Oxfam Wastesaver is urgently appealing for donations of unwanted clothes following a fire at the end of April.

The recycling plant in Huddersfield, which provides the materials used to make Sequel London bags, lost thousands of tonnes of donated clothes in the fire, as well as much of their machinery.  Most of the vintage fashion usually sold at festivals and through pop-up shops has been destroyed, and Oxfam are now appealing to the public to raid their wardrobes and donate any unwanted items in time for festival season.

Luckily no-one was injured in the fire - but Oxfam urgently need to replenish its retail stock as soon as possible, so they can continue to raise millions of pounds to help fight poverty.

Please donate any items you can today – take any clothing you no longer need to your local Oxfam shop. Anything you can give will really help, but in particular Oxfam need the following to refill its festival shop:

winter clothing such as coats, tweeds or fake furs
vintage items such as dresses, scarves and accessories
fancy dress items
wellies, waterproofs, tents and sleeping bags.
And, if you’re feeling creative, you could help to knit some blankets (always a hit at festivals) or even make some bunting.

Oxfam is the only major charity to operate its own textile sorting facility, Wastesaver. It maximises revenue from textiles that cannot be re-sold in its shops, and minimises the amount of textiles sent to landfill - by selling unwanted material to companies such as Sequel London, who then use them to make its range of bags.
